Hare Krsna!

1 Answer

Hare Krishna. The answer according to the Bhakti tradition is that we appreciate both happiness and distress, because Krishna also gives us distress so we can become stronger spiritually by relying more and more on Krishna. This verse from the Bhagavad-Gita explains how we should learn to tolerate both happiness and distress by relying on Krishna. One should endeavour to remain sober in times of happiness also because the happiness that arrises in our life may lead us to becoming complacent in our relationship with Krishna by getting carried away with our own enjoyment. If one is firmly fixed in Krishna consciousness they remain steady amongst the temporary happiness and distress that arrises in this material world.

The verse is from Bhagavad-Gita as it is, chapter two, verse fourteen.
